Blademaster mobile sharpening services have been operating in Australia for the last 11 years, providing quality workmanship and service to all of our customers.
The equipment we use is manufactured here in Australia and is unique. This fact affords our franchisees a great deal of protection from competition, unlike other business opportunities such as lawn mowing, cleaning, etc.
Each van or trailer is set up with the equipment on a rollout workbench. Everything you need is at your fingertips. The sharpening machine uses an assortment of attachments and grinding wheels for the various tasks. All of this is supplied to you and fitted into your vehicle ready for work.
Our first Blademaster trailer was launched in Melbourne in January 2004 with Michael in Croydon:

“ I get a lot of comments from buiders about the trailer, they’re all impressed because its’ so simple and yet so organised. I think they wish their own trailers were as compact and user friendly” |
After successfully completing the training you are ready to begin your new business in your protected territory. In most cases your territory will be around your local area. This affords the basis for maximum time efficiency.
The Blademaster sharpening systems and the equipment we use are unique in the fact that no other sharpening company in the country has the ability to correctly sharpen the variety of items ‘on-site’ as we can. This obviously provides a better service to our customers that cannot be competed with by the other sharpening companies. Most other sharpening businesses, offer a pick up and delivery service, which means that their customers are without their blades for 3-5 days. As you can appreciate this does not suit most professionals who require all of their tools each day.
At Blademaster we cater for a wide variety
of customers ranging from builders, plumbers, electricians,
through to hospitals, cafés, hotels, hardware shops, timber yards and councils. Obviously
the type of work done for these customers varies greatly,
however with the versatility
of our equipment we can sharpen almost anything on-site.
Vehicle layout, pricing, and general information will vary, depending
on the Blademaster division chosen.
There are three divisions available with Blademaster. The trade division, commercial division and the domestic division. Each franchisee specialises in their chosen division.
If you decide to pursue this business further, we do not expect you to take what we say or do at face value. You are more than welcome to speak with any of our franchisees and please feel free to ask us ANY question you like about this business in order to assist your decision, we will accommodate you as much as we possibly can.
‘Training…’
During your training course, you will cover all facets of sharpening associated with your chosen division. The training provided will cover both practical applications and sharpening principals. You will learn how to restore a professional edge to all associated items and much more. We will teach you a craft that will last you a lifetime.
The training,
although thorough, is based on very simple sharpening principals,
which once fully understood,
are the same, irrespective
of the item being sharpened. We will provide you
with that knowledge and
the ability to apply it, not only in a text-book
fashion, but also in an individual way, thus allowing
you to sharpen any item to suit your customers’ individual requirements.
With each division the training period may vary from the time specified, due to the individual abilities of the person being trained. Lateral thinking plays a key role in how quickly someone can learn this craft. Almost anyone can be taught how to professionally sharpen tools, however at Blademaster we focus very heavily on the knowledge and understanding behind the technique. Why something works is just as important as how it works, if not more so.
During your training we will have you using the tools you have sharpened, you will see the effects of sharpening incorrectly, and learn how to overcome practical problems.
The training, although challenging, will give you a very sound basis to begin your new sharpening business, and of course, if you have any difficulties along the way, we are there to help.
‘Getting started…’
Blademaster head office is responsible for group advertising and promotion. We have a marketing fund which each franchisee contributes into, this fund is then used for general advertising, such as radio, newspapers etc.. When the work comes in on the 1300 135 635 booking number it is allocated to the nearest franchisee. If that franchisee is unable to perform that specific job in the time required by the customer, then it is forwarded to the next closest franchisee.
When developing your business, you are free to travel outside of your protected area to service one of your customers, if they are working in a different area. The only restriction is that you cannot actively promote yourself whilst you are in another franchisees’ territory servicing your customer.
The start up fee is paid at the time of signing the ‘Franchise Agreement’,
and varies depending on the division chosen, this agreement is
signed and completed prior to the training.
